I haven't played Beyond Shadowgate but I would like to know if this game is worth the effort of seeking out and buying. So what are your personal Pros and Cons of this game?

Its much cheaper and easier to emulate it. I won't post links here but the ISO and PC Engine emulator are easy enough to find online.
Unless you want to pay some greedy fool on ebay over $100 for it...or are a collector.

I own the game. Yes, I paid a lot for it, but I am a collector and I have all the Shadowgates (including the book) in box and in mint condition. It was worth it for me. I made a backup disc and only play that (and I have it installed in an arcade machine to top it off! Sweet!)
Pros: The game is fantastic, and has a good replay value. The music is done well, as well as the artwork. It's different in that it's a side scrolling/rpg type of game, but is easy to grasp. The story is pretty good. (Takes place some years after Shadowgate, playing as the son of the hero of the first game. There are TONS of decisions to make and equipment to carry. The artist did well on the backgrounds and character animations. The artwork flows well. Some of the scenarios are laugh out loud moments. (Turning your back on the Gargoyle, old woman and her photo album, the ALTERNATE ending...)
Cons: Obviously the price, but I was fine with it when I found it in mint condition, (with poster and perfect jewel case). A few voice acting choices were kind of...off, but whatever. Some of the puzzles were pretty difficult to figure out. (nowhere NEAR as bad as Shadowgate 64 though) I did look at a walkthrough a couple of times, but tried not to as much as I could. Some traps you will just walk into without warning. SAVE OFTEN! Is not as "dark" as the first one; I wish it weren't so kid friendly in parts, but it does appeal to the wide audience and they fall into that category.
Overall: 8/10 It's one of my favorite games, knowing it is in limited quantity I highly recommend it. If you are a collector, pay the cost. I hope this falls on the radar for a remake like the first. It'd be worth it, and I think, well received.
